Friday Family Fun on a Budget in Tampa, Florida

Fridays at our house has become Family Fun Day since the Hubby is now off most Fridays. So we have been looking for affordable things to do as a family. This year my word for the year was Simplify. For me that includes taking the adventure and making the memories. Even a bike ride or a picnic can be an adventure. We are on a family friendly budget too, it doesn’t always have to cost a fortune…in fact most of the time we need it not to.

The Tampa Bay Area, seems to offer a variety of engaging and affordable activities perfect for families looking to spend quality time together without overspending. Here are some budget-friendly options to consider for your Friday family outing that we found by scouring the internet:

1. Visit the Museum of Science & Industry (MOSI)

MOSI provides an interactive environment where families can explore science, technology, and innovation through hands-on exhibits. Discover the wonders of the universe in the Saunders Planetarium, experience the thrill of the Sky Trail® Ropes Course, and embark on a lunar adventure at Mission: Moonbase. Admission prices are reasonable, with general admission for adults at $14.00 and children aged 3-17 at $10.00. Children under 2 years old receive free admission. MOSI is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

2. Explore Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park

Located in downtown Tampa, Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park spans 8 acres along the Hillsborough River. The park features a large playground, interactive fountains, picnic areas, and is adjacent to the Tampa Museum of Art and the Glazer Children's Museum. Located in Largo, just a short drive from Tampa, the Florida Botanical Gardens span 100 acres and feature diverse plant collections, including tropical plants, palms, and flowering trees. Admission is free, and the gardens are open daily from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. It's a great place for families to explore nature and learn about different plant species.

5. Experience the Manatee Viewing Center at Apollo Beach

If you're interested in wildlife, the Manatee Viewing Center at Apollo Beach offers a unique opportunity to observe manatees in their natural habitat. The center is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and admission is free. It's an educational experience that the whole family can enjoy.

Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park, located along the Hillsborough River, often hosts free events such as outdoor movies, concerts, and festivals. The park features playgrounds, sports courts, picnic areas, and a boathouse offering kayak and paddleboard rentals. It's worth checking the park's event schedule to see what's happening this Friday.

Located in the historic Ybor City neighborhood, the Ybor City Museum State Park offers insights into the area's rich cultural heritage. The museum is housed in a historic building and features exhibits related to the immigrant communities that shaped the area.
